on vessel MSC Pina 17-22 sep 2008

i have so many collaages tt i dunno how to post them. but i guess i will just try to post them a/c to food, facilities, camera-whoring and etc.

Photobucket

HIT. Hongkong International Terminal. there are few ports there if im not wrong and they are mostly privately owned.

Photobucket

our vessel!! it is 340m long! as long as the running track!

Photobucket

the exit/entrance to the superstructure. this is the port side.

Photobucket

inside the superstructure, which is the accomodation of the crews.

Photobucket

the location of the rooms and facilities available. there are 23 people on board including us! steward, master, chief officer, chief engineering, cook, bosun etc. this board is found in the lift.

Photobucket

the girls' room! it is called e owner's room, as the word spells, it is the room meant for the owner/boss of this vessel and naturally it is the biggest.

our room has study table, refrigerator, private washroom (actually all rooms have pte washroom), 2x double bed, sofa.

*blissed* just because we are the girls! :D

Photobucket

the mini hospital. the captain is actually trained to do minor surgery if the person is not seriously injured. if he/she is, then they will have to make use of the satellite facilites to call for a helicopter ambulance.

Photobucket

the sauna and mini gym. u know there are swimming pool facilities on other vessels as well, but bcos shipping lines are very profit driven, they will try to cut down on such facilites and make use of the space for cargo instead.

Photobucket

the kitchen!

it is amazing big with full sets of kitchen equipments like the oven etc.

Photobucket

the stores! stores mean things tt are meant for consumption. they have meat room, vege room, seafood room! and they have lotsa pasta stuff cos it is italian company. check out MSC. they are huge.

Photobucket

Photobucket

the engine room! dun ask me wat the things are, cos i dun even know wat they are. all i know is the engine room is very hot! and there are soo many complicated buttons around. the oil may just spill if i press the wrong button!

there are alot more rooms like the recreation room etc, but they are not fun at all tt was why i didnt take the photos. how do u expect fun in a room w tv and hifi only. but the guys made it somewat fun cos they have saturday parties and they play their own guitar and all. :)

next.. where should i touch on? okay, FOOD! the food pictures tt im gg to show are meals of random days. they have about 4 course meal which include the appeitiser, main course x2, dessert/snack (i dunno wat u call tt) and lastly fruits+coffee!

they have a steward to serve them.

Photobucket

taadaa! it is him! who patiently serves us every single meal!

Photobucket

my first lunch on board.

Photobucket

they show the menu eveyday. and the bread are all freshly baked every single day!

Photobucket

eh this is lunch on another day.

Photobucket

last lunch on board before we got our butt back into sg.

Photobucket

the last dinner the night before on board! i tell you the pizza is amazing good. the BEST pizza i ever eaten made by the hands of true blue italian!

Photobucket

bfast. nothing amazing abt it cos they keep their breakfast simple. bread and some meat. we woke up really late cos there was nothing left. i seriously couldnt get used to just bread and coffee despite the aromatic smell of the bread and coffee. i still prefer my char bee hoon. :D

and presenting u w the most happening meal on a saturday night!!

Photobucket

BBQ!! and that is a bbq lamb for your info.

Photobucket

job done! cutting time.

Photobucket

happy dinner!!! i super love this dinner!

Photobucket

the awfully sinful delicious food.

Photobucket

fun!

okay, next to hmmm chiwan port!

Photobucket

the next day after we boarded the vessel at 1900, we slept thru the night and the vessel completed cargo operations and sailed for china! pictures of us while we were still in the hk borders.

Photobucket

chief officer, master and all carefully navigating.

Photobucket

reaching the chiwan port!! on bottom left hand corner, the picture shows a traind pilot together with new OJT trainees.

Photobucket

finally!! artistic pictures taken by jerry. :D

Photobucket

presenting to you, chiwan port. they are really efficient in terms of space.

okay and so for how shekou, shenzhen looks like, i guess i have posted the pictures. hmm, wat is next?

ahhh, pictures of us!

before i move on, let me show u a very nice picture of the chief engineer's hometown.

Photobucket

totally pretty right!!

Photobucket

there u go! the chief engineer at the forward part of the vessel.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

us! thank you to jerry and jesse (the 3 "J-s") for giving me such an enjoyable trip!

Photobucket

the total teu tt we are carrying and the very precise map of singapore. TEU means 20 footer equivalent. tt means we are carrying about 8000 20" containers or anything equivalent of tt. woah.

Photobucket

i enjoy climbing up to the bridge because it gives me a sense of empowerment. it makes me feel like im in control of everything thou i dunno how to navigate. haha. but the feeling of it is something tt cannot be obtained anywhere.

after 6 days on sea, i finished my set of taiwan drama of 22 episodes. watched saw II and many other movies, chit chatted, taken lotsa photos, i must say this life of seafarer is only interesting for one week. i love their perks. their travel experiences, the money (they can easily get about USD 5-15k pre month depending on their position) but i feel helpless when im out there in the sea. the vessel may look very big, but it is so so so vulnerable in the sea. it feels like u are out there alone, plus w/o communications, u cant help but to miss ur loved ones very much.

this trip was very fulfiling. we had lovely set of crews who made our stay so welcomed, they tidied our room for us, chit chatted w us, shared knowledge abt shipping w us, brought us to places where we prob would never have the chance to see like the engine room, like some pubs in a corner of shekou. 3 countries in a 18 days long trip, 2 ports, great company, good food. wat more can i ask for?

Photobucket

u can imagine my delight when i saw the world's of port, our dear PSA. :)
