random thots.

random thots!

the other time i heard few girls going HOO-HAA about their newly bought facial cleanser, dresses, shoes.

then i was like....... i think i was like tt 1-2 years back? when bags and shoes mean the world to me. and when wearing the wrong shoes with wrong top mean U.G.L.Y to me. i used to think the more expensive the better. the more branded the better. i used to go like "wah so nice it is from LV" or "look! the bmw is so cool"

i think i have passed the kinda phase thou i might be very much into material desires these days cos i have started working and am able to own things tt i very much would wanna have in the past.

but the point is... i start to wonder to myself if all these are necessary. seriously! i dont mean it as not necessary in the sense that you wear torn and tattered clothings to work.

the issue here is how many do we need and why we need to have the expensive ones instead of the affordable ones?

look, most of us are fixed salary employee. say on average everyone earns abt $3k. then the moment u enter gucci, u come out with an wallet that cost u $650 just bcos u think it is important to have it and then u enter LV again and leave with your prized bag that prob cost u another $1500.

do the maths and u realise you are broke by $2150 and if u are the credit-card-bill-dont-pay-on-time person, another late payment fee and interest of 24%/year added. there you go! and so u have $850 for ur meals everyday! may god bless that bread and water dont increase in prices!

then you go broke and u whine abt ur pay too little, u whine abt too many things to buy and why eveyone can be so rich and buy this and that, u get into this whole cycle. to feed that digusting desire, you get ur pay start of the month and u get another burberrys bag (i dunno why pp need so many bags when they can only bring one bag out at one time, i know im slapping myself for saying tt, but hey, im selling my stuff soon. heh.) then u end up being BROKE again.

alamak. really. i mean dont u just feel pathetic?

then this question of materialism came in when i came back from vietnam recently. i bought this unauth branded keyppouch from vietnam cos it was pretty looking. pretty looking nt bcos of the brand, but bcos of the design. the moment pp see it, they asked me if it was the real deal. being the upfront frank me, i said no. then u could see their disgusted face like i sinned or killed someone. but the whole point is, vietnam has all the fake stuff everywhere. even their bike seat is LV leather okay! dont play play.

to me, a keypouch is a keypouch. it is kept inside my bag ALL THE TIME except when i leave/reach home, i only flash it for tt 10 sec to myself at the doorstep! yet pp are still super interested if it is real or fake stuff.

is there a need to do tt? a keypouch is afterall, only a keypouch.

it is not a matter whether u can afford it, it is whether u wanna fork out that kinda money to spur more materialism and for those rich businessmen to get richer.

i know there is whole deal of studies and research on how these brands help to elavate status and confidence. i must admit it helps in a way or so, but i think being overly obessed and blind with such consumerism really disgust me.

im working on my monthly budget lately as i have decided to take up masters in 1-2 years time, i realise how much one can save without being stingy. THRIFY is the word, not stingy. i still indulge in my favourite la mian and xiao long bao at crystal jade with my sisters, but the issue here the frequency. and then buying what is needed and what is not needed. i still travel as usual to my favourite dirty, basic countries. travelling to europe is still one of my dream but not till when i wanna achieve the important-s in life first.

well, everyone is different in their own way. i appluade girls who can take 2 hrs to make up and look very pretty when they are out on their streets. i admire those who shop ard in the orchard with their just-wake-up hair and them in their tees with shorts. i guess i have to learn to accept in that aspect. perhaps it is just pet peeve to hear girls giggling and gossiping about these stuff.

i may whine abt buying this and tt everyday (i really mean everyday) but pp who know me well understand well enuff tt joanna is just too talkative to shut up so she says rubbish every single day.

before anyone look down on someone w/o all these perceived-much-needed bags and wallets, think twice. it is not a matter whether u can afford it, it is whether u wanna fork out that money.

my friend who is selling laksa for her boss just bought a 2nd hand gucci bag tt cost $800 with her poor tummy starvng for 2 months. is that really worth it?

food for thot.
