my thai times.

today i met up w a malay uni mate and he was learning level 1 mandarin. so i tried to speak to him in mandarin. i asked "ni jin tian kai xin ma?" (are u happy today?)

he uttered "oh dui le dui le." (ya right right)

the ans was funny cos it does not match the qns tt i was asking.

i was then reminded of the fun times i had learning thai 1 and 2. we struggled to speak the correct tone and to mix and match the words together to get the right sentence structure. during lessons, we laughed at each other's silly mistake and giggled over terrible mistakes like how yingpei could said "shake breast" when the teacher wanted us to say "pour milk". laughter and fun often filled the class. i must admit that i am someone who pick up language very slowly. but i never did regret taking thai lessons. i was often very shy to speak up cos i cldnt master it as fast as others, but i liked to be in a class immersed with laughters. and often, our thai teachers tell us abt their culture and their lifestyle back in thai. it is nt just abt the language, it is abt learning and appreciating each other culture and to make frenship beyond the classroom boundary.

we had fun times writing those thai scripts as well. some called it the beansprouts which certainly bear some resemblance if u were to take a 2nd look at it. a different way of writing could easily be misinterpreted for another character.

those were the times.

as i approach my last sem, i wonder if i shld continue on with thai 3 or malay 1 or japanese 1. too bad no korean in sch, if not someone will be really happy. :)

languages, it bonds people together. thru commuication, thru learning. thot of the day. :)
